For those who are working, they would agree to the fact that the workplace is actually the second home. We spend half of the day at work but there are those that actually spend more time working than being with their family. With the long hours spent on the work environment, it is essential to establish relationships as the environment can become really stressful without people to help you. For some, having friends at work is not an important thing however they probably do not know what they are missing.

Should you have a large workload to handle, a friend or someone you can help you with that may come very handy. Furthermore, friends at work can give you healthy criticisms that can further enhance your skills and can help you achieve your goals. Emotional stress is also something that can be dealt with in the office if you have friends. And of course, friends at your place of work will push you to your best to achieve what you desire. The question however is, how do you earn this good friends at your workplace? In the case of a newly hired employee looking to make friends in the new environment, here are the suggestions.

First impressions last

Among the best and simplest way to get to know other people and at the same time make them remember you. As you are introduced to other people or colleagues, try to give them that warm smile, firm handshake, humble approach and kind gestures. As soon as you give that good first impression, you'll be drawing people's attention over to you thus making them want to know more and be with you.

One essential component of being introduced and having a good first impression is remembering the names or possibly the positions of the person you are introduced to. You can use this advantage when trying to approach them in the future.

Join lunch groups

There is also a great chance for you to make friends during break specially lunch breaks. As soon as you get an opportunity to go with a lunch group do not hesitate as these opportunities will not come very often. This is also the only time at work when workers will be free to unwind and relax as well as do anything they want. With this, you can get to know people along with the things you have in common such as hobbies, likes, work routines, and many more.

Open mindedness

Not all people at work will like your or will be comfortable with talking or being friends with you. Thus, you will need to understand that and be open-minded about it. Instead of doing the negative thing like staying away from that person, try to find out what he or she dislikes about you and learn to eliminate, lessen or control it. Not only will you be able to deal with indifference at work but can make your sense of leadership as well as your ability to deal with negativity radiate.

Don't rush making friends

The last component of making friends effectively is that you should take your time. Certainly you can make friends within the day but that should not be your foundation of a 'real' friendship. Although it shouldn?t take months or years before you actually make a friend. Do not rush it as friendships only happen naturally - just enjoy and stay true to yourself.
