by Bill Duggen

As soon as a promotion is offered in the workplace, most people conjure up a picture of better environment at work as well as a fatter pay check. Despite the fact that a promotion will help one to gain better benefits, there are also certain times when one would need to decline it.

However, turning down such a great offer is actually quite difficult. It could lead you to leaving your team, people who have earned your trust or those you would call family at work. The new environment or work office can also contribute to the total failure of the job if not dealt with accordingly and tactfully. It is recommended that you have second thoughts about accepting that great offer.

Let's say you're no longer willing to accept the offer, how would you decline it in a way that no compromises or negative impacts to your position. Fortunately, this process can be a bit easier if you are among those old-timers in the company where you are working and already have established a good working relationship with most of your colleagues. The company would simply accept any decision you make as you've already proven yourself through your years of service and experience with the company. Thus, you can simply say "no" to the job promotion without having to think of dire consequences. If your promotion requires relocation, you can turn down the offer without compromising anything by letting them know of your situation and how the promotion would negatively affect it. One example of such statement for this is ?I would love to say yes to that offer but my children are taking up their last year of high school education in this state and it would be difficult for them to adjust to the new environment?. Or ?I've been wanting to progress through the company however I can't accept that great amount of responsibility now as I am currently tending to my sick mother.? and many others.

Furthermore, one is also able to decline an offer simply by being clear about how effective you are in your present position. As an example, you can say "That is definitely a great offer. I'm sure it pays better than my present job however I've learned a few things on what my position requires and I believe that I can excel in doing those.?

Should you be offered a position which you wouldn?t think of taking, in a gentle manner tell them your key skills and how you should be offered a different position than the present offer. Simply have them picture what you are doing and what your key skills are whenever you are on that current position. Compare the positions being pictured and in which position you will probably excel in.

Rejecting a job promotion is unnatural and also means that you are not following orders from the company that is why it is a difficult thing to do. Luckily, you are now equipped with these essential tips and are now ready to face your bosses.
